What would work for YOU?

The most important thing to remember about BlixxHorses is that our programs are flexible, customized and personalized. Below you’ll find some existing programs, but in your first call to us at 207-985-1994, Gabriela will chat with you to get a sense of what you’re looking for and what you might need. From there she’ll recommend a comfortable way for you to get started, typically with a visit. Remember, BlixxHorses is recognized by the IRS as an educational 501(c)3 organization, which means our purpose is to make a charitable and educational contribution to our communities. The fees we charge, which are your donations, are necessary to continue the programs we offer.

First Visit & Tour. The perfect way to begin --- this is an ideal introduction to horses. After a short tour, we’ll start with basic safety, and teach you how to read the horses. You’ll learn how to approach, then touch, and then finally interact with the horses in their stalls. If you’ve never been in close proximity to a horse, and are fearful or anxious, please know this is common. We’re here to help, and will ease you into things slowly, carefully and gently! Visit & Tour is approximately one hour long.

  • Individual Introduction --- $50

  • Introduction for 2 --- $35 per person

  • Introduction for 3-5 --- $25 per person

  • Group Discount for 6 to maximum of 20 --- $8 per person

Follow-Up Visits. You may want to extend the introduction process after your First Visit & Tour. This happens often, as many clients want to make quite sure that they are comfortable with what they learned during their first visit, and that they have a firm grasp of “the basics.” We totally understand, and support a slow approach, as do horses.

  • Individual Introduction --- $35

  • Introduction for 2 --- $20 per person

  • Introduction for 3-5 --- $12 per person

HorseTherapy. Once you and BlixxHorses reach the mutual understanding that you’re ready to graduate from the introductory phase of your new relationship with Lexxie and Fritz, then together we can begin to design a program of interaction with the horses over the long-term, at pace at which you are comfortable, and with a frequency that coincides with your lifestyle, schedule and budget. We can design this together, and determine what custom therapeutic program would be appropriate for you.

  • 2-Hour Session --- $60

  • 4-Hour Session --- $95

HorsePlay for Kids. Do you want your child to experience horses? Do you want your child to learn more about horses and their care than mucking stalls and grooming? Do you want your child to gain an appreciation for horses, not just for riding? Do you want your child to have a more educational and enriching experience and learn how horses communicate to develop a friendship? You don't have to ride them to enjoy them. Great rainy day fun in a cool, comfortable barn!

  • Maximum of three 1-hour sessions per week

  • 1 session/wk —- $40

  • 2 sessions/wk —- $75

  • 3 sessions/wk —- $100

HorsePlay Adults. To share and bond through horseplay, these sessions are ideally for two people. Learn more about horses and their care comfortably and safely. Gain an appreciation for horses in a clean, serene environment. If you want to have a more educational & enriching experience, you don't have to ride them to enjoy them. Three sessions scheduled weekly is best. Includes a lesson plan.

  • 1-hour sessions —- $50 per person

Horse Ownership, Care & Handling I. This  personalized workshop combines Theory and Practical Application. It provides a foundation of knowledge, experience and physical skills necessary for new horse owners, anyone with interest in volunteering at a facility or anyone considering involvement with horses in the future. It is also valuable for students with an interest in Animal Science or Veterinary Medicine.

Owning horses is a costly venture but when you understand their needs as a species and  individuals, it makes the process of keeping them in good care for life easier.

A non riding lesson plan includes basic anatomy/physiology, kinesiology, communication & behavior, handling/grooming, nutrition, management and care.  Learning involving another species, especially a large prey animal, can be intense and requires grasping information needed to do things correctly and safely.

Short 2-4 hr. sessions are scheduled for maximum learning & retention.  A day off or more between help with processing. Scheduling different times of day  provides insight on different behaviors & patterns - all useful when caring for a horse. Certificate of completion is issued at completion.

  • 42 Hour Course —- $350

Horse Ownership, Care & Handling II. When you invest time into learning, before taking on a responsibility of this nature, it makes your involvement with horses easier, safer, less time consuming and more time enjoying & less costly, while not sacrificing quality care of the horse or your well being. Part 2  builds on the  experience & refines skills.

  • 25 Hour Course —- $200

On The Road

Getting Lexxie and Fritz to off-site locations involves greater complexity and expense, since the horses need to be moved in out of the trailer, transported, and so forth. Although time-consuming, many local organizations and businesses prefer to have us bring the horses to their preferred locations, and of course both are always a big hit when they arrive on the scene! Here are some of our popular programs.

Let’s Go To The Beach! Everybody loves the beach, and our therapy horses are no different. As you know, southern Maine is blessed with so many spectacular beaches that it’s impossible to list them all. But we certainly love to visit them all! A typical beach visit will last 3-4 fours, and is what we call “education in a casual setting.” It’s typically a modified version of a First Visit, in which we’ll explain basic care and feeding, review research about proper treatment of the animals, and how studies have shown that building a relationship with therapy horses, over time, produces tangible emotional and physical benefits for people from all walks of life. We’ll also touch on beach-specific topics like weather, tides and how the horses adapt to different footing. There are so many variables to consider that each beach outing should be custom-designed and custom-priced (please call to discuss), but here are some rough guidelines.

  • Private Group or Family (7 people or less) --- $350

  • Larger Group (8 to maximum 20 people) --- $500

  • Open Participation (no hard limit) --- $750
